Golf Lessons For Beginners – Where Do You Start?

So, you have decided to take up the great game of golf? I started to play golf at the age of 10 with some old cut down golf clubs that belonged to my Grandfather; the golf club set was made up of three or four different brands and of different golf club head and shaft materials. I started with a couple of friends to go to the local public golf course and just try to hit the ball by watching the other golfers on the course.

Now, I definitely don’t advise you to take this approach, as I continued for 5 years like that with no improvement in my game. I should have taken beginners golf lessons since the age of 10 as that is a good age to start molding your game. Now I am not saying that you can’t start golf at a later age or as a mature adult; you most definitely can. Some people are naturals that have a perfect golf swing right from the beginning, but for most of us, we have to take golf lessons for beginners.

So, where do you start? The first thing you will need is a set of golf clubs. Depending on your financial situation and your seriousness of wanting to learn to golf and continue playing golf, will factor in which clubs to buy. Your first decision will be how much you want to invest in a set of clubs. If money is an issue, check your local classifieds or on eBay for a second hand set. If you decide you want to pay for a brand new set of clubs you could pay several hundred dollars and up to a thousand or more for the latest top brand name golf club set. To research further, search on the Internet; you can often find Certified Preowned Golf Clubs at a good price and in mint or excellent condition. Other sites also have a stock of Discount Golf Clubs, clearance or closeout golf clubs which are normally discounted because the manufacturer just brought out the latest and greatest model. Remember, how ever you acquire your golf clubs, you will have to get a few details right – the golf club length, the shaft flex, the club head material which will affect the weight of the club and the grip material. (Don’t forget to check for the Best Deals in golf balls, tees, golf glove, golf shoes and a golf bag, oh and a golf umbrella if you live in Scotland or Ireland!)

Okay, so you are ready to start. In my opinion, the best golf lessons for beginners is to take private (or group) instruction. At the age of 15 or 16 I took golf lessons from the golf pro at my local club and my game improved noticeably. This all depends on how much money you are willing to spend to learn golf and also on your schedule; you have to fit in the golf lessons around your work or school commitment. The best approach for the complete novice who doesn’t know the first thing about the techniques of golf (grip, stance, alignment, etc.) is to start right away with several beginners golf lessons with a golf pro in your area.

How to Score a Tee Time at Carnoustie Golf Course During a Scotland Golf Vacation

I stumbled upon a great little nugget of information the other day when planning my upcoming Scotland golf vacation. I was trying to make a tee time at The Championship course at Carnoustie Golf Links, which we’ve described before as “the most challenging course you can play on a Scotland golf vacation.” I must have waited too long, because when I called to make reservations, the course had no available tee times.Who can forget last year’s Open Championship at Carnoustie? Like Jean Van de Velde’s unforgettable meltdown in 1999, it ended in dramatic fashion as Padraig Harrington, leading by one shot with one hole to play, dunked two balls into the drink, opening the door for Sergio Garcia. Snakebit Sergio went on to bogie the 18th hole and ultimately lost in a playoff. Who can forget? Apparently, nobody. This nail-biting theater has made Carnoustie even more of a must-play for those on a Scotand golf vacation…which is why I got squeezed out. (continued at www.GolfVacationInsider.com)

One of the Newest Cancun Golf Courses to Play on a Mexico Golf Vacation

If you’ve been considering a Mexico golf vacation, you’ve probably heard the name Playa Mujeres Golf Club buzzing around. An opulent Greg Norman design that opened in June 2006, it’s one of many new Cancun golf courses that are elevating this area to true “golf destination” status. Here are a few handy tips if you want to make this Cancun golf course part of your Mexico golf vacation: First, Playa Mujeres lies just north of Cancun’s “hotel zone”, but don’t believe anyone who tells you that the course is just 15 minutes away. Not even Cancun’s craziest cab driver can get there that quickly. Give yourself at least 30 minutes. (continued at www.GolfVacationInsider.com)

One of the Most Unique Cancun Golf Courses to Play on a Mexico Golf Vacation

P.B. Dye, the son of legendary golf architect Pete Dye, built a reputation as being somewhat of a maverick designer, and his 2005 Playa Paraiso Golf Club in the Riviera Maya region only bolsters that image. Simply put, most Cancun golf courses don’t have anywhere near the amount of elevation change and bold contouring that Playa Paraiso does. To say that Dye was not afraid of moving a lot of earth is an understatement. As a kid, he was as comfortable operating a bulldozer as he was riding a bike.
