Golf Training Clubs – Medicus vs Refiner
posted in Golf Training |In a previous blog posts, I have reviewed the Medicus golf club and the Refiner golf training clubs. Both of these golf swing trainer aids are what are known as hinged swing trainers as they have a hinge that breaks open if there is a fault in your golf swing.
Today I will compare Medicus vs Refiner to show you the differences and the similarities between the two. First, I would like to point out that both products offer excellent quality and also they perform as they are designed to. In other words, they will both help you correct a swing problem.
First up are the hinged swing trainers from Refiner Golf. Not as well known as the Medicus golf club range of golf training clubs, the Refiner deserves more recognition. Refiner Golf concentrates just on their hinged swing trainers while Medicus also has a line of weighted swing trainers and other golf training aids.
The major difference when comparing Medicus vs Refiner is the Refiner hinge. The hinge, which breaks in two directions from center, has an adjustability feature, that can be tweaked with the accompanying allen wrench. The hinge incorporates a brass oil lite bushing that the hinge pivots around for smooth accurate action. The bearing / bushing also allows the hinge to wear in not out; this is an extremely important feature. The longer distance from top to bottom of the inside of the hinge allows the golfer to feel where the club head is throughout the swing.
As Refiner Golf just concentrate on hinged swing trainers, there line-up is more complete than Medicus. You have the choice of the Refiner Driver, 5-iron, 6-iron, chipper (angle-iron), and putter. Their packages, which are designed to save you money, include: The Par Saver (the driver and the 5 or 6-iron); the Birdie Maker Package (the driver, 6-iron, and putter); and the Tee to Green (the driver, 6-iron, chipper, and putter).
All the individual golf swing trainer clubs come with an instructional DVD, except the chipper, which comes with an instructional booklet. The putter does not include a DVD or booklet though. All the packages also come with an instructional DVD.
When comparing Medicus vs Refiner in the golf club options, Refiner wins hands down. The driver 5-iron and 6-iron have the options of clubs for men, women, and juniors. They are available in right or left hand, 4 different shaft lengths, and the option of a standard grip or a training grip. The same individual options are available in the packages as well. The chipper is only available in right hand and the putter in right or left, but without the options of different shaft lengths.
Finally, the prices of Medicus vs Refiner are mixed. At the bottom of this review I will compare the prices side by side.
The company that claims to have “the best selling golf training aid ever” is Medicus Golf. They certainly seam to be the leaders in sales and fame, but this could be down to their excellent marketing and advertising strategies. They also have on board some top PGA professionals and PGA instructors, like Mark O’Meara, Camilo Villegas, and Jack Lumpkin.
The Medicus training aids line-up of dual hinged swing trainers are: the Medicus Driver, 7-iron, and 5-iron. The Medicus putter is not a hinged club, instead it is a Dual-Handled putter trainer – the dual-handle fits over your own putter to practice your putting. There is one combo package which includes the driver and the 5-iron. Although, when you buy the Medicus Driver you get the putter trainer for free.
All the clubs and the combo come with an instructional DVD and some also include a bonus instructional DVD. Unfortunately, the only personal options when choosing the clubs is between men’s in right or left hand, and women’s and juniors in right hand only. Like I said, Medicus also have several other instructional DVD’s and golf training aids, like their Maximus Driver, 7-iron, and lob wedge series of weighted golf clubs.
Now let’s compare the prices of the Medicus vs Refiner for their hinged swing trainers:
Driver - - - - Refiner - $99.95 - - - - - - - - Medicus - $159.90
Irons - - - - -Refiner - $79.95 - - - - - - - - Medicus - $119.80
Chipper - - - Refiner - $59.95 - - - - - - - - Medicus - N/A
Putter - - - - Refiner - $89.95 - - - - - - - - Medicus - N/A
Top Combo -Refiner - $259.95 (4 clubs) - Medicus - $259.95 (2 clubs)
Just going by price, the Refiner Driver wins, the Refiner Irons win, and the Refiner Combo wins. Refiner also has two other combos, one of 2 clubs and the other of 3 clubs) which are also of excellent value. For choice of swing trainers and more personal fitting options, the Refiner Golf company has it all. Going by the number of sales and on how well known either company is, Medicus wins.
As price isn’t necessarily everything, you have to compare all the factors. Both companies have excellent hinged swing trainers. They both do what they are designed to do – teach you to swing on tempo and plane, identify your golf swing faults, develops muscle memory for a repeatable and perfect golf swing, cures your hooks and slices, and, at the end of the day, improve distance, accuracy, and consistency.
Which company offers the best golf training clubs, Medicus Golf vs Refiner Golf? The jury is still out on that – I will let you decide!
